Player to Broadcaster

Joining E-Comm

I officially joined E-Comm this year as a Junior. I was in the class last year for one hour at the end of the day. I was brand new to making videos and writing stories. Their was a big learning curve on how to make videos and shooting them. Most of the other kids in class had been in E-Comm since Freshman year so they knew the basis to most of the ideas and things.

My growth

1. I have become better at shooting and producing videos. I learned how to use the 6 shot system. The system has helped my videos improve over the year and create better stories. The video I made for the ONW vs. Leavenworth shows the skills I have acquired throughout this year.

2. I now know how to use Final Cut Pro. At the beginning of last year I was using iMovie and my videos were looking very amateurish. After producing my first package with Final Cut I really saw a much better finished project. I then used my resources and learned a bunch of different cool things to do with Final Cut.

3. I have become a broadcaster and commentated several Football games along with some Basketball games. Most of the times during the Football games I commented solo but with the Basketball games I commented with a partner. Such as Connor Gerdes for the Washburn Rural game.

ONW vs. Leavenworth Football:

I filmed the Olathe Northwest vs. Leavenworth football game this year. I shot and produced this Sports package with the help of Connor Gerdes. I did the voice over. I really enjoyed this project because it was in the middle of the season so Connor and I went to Leavenworth to film it. We had a lot of fun making this video and using different shots.

Homecoming pump up video:

I produced this video with my Football Beat group. AKA Connor Gerdes, Ryley DeMaro, and Brooke Todd. We really enjoyed making this video and getting the feedback from students on how it pumped them up for the game. It was also very cool bc we filmed all of the shots and the whole school got to see it.

ONW vs ON Football: This was the last game of the season for the Ravens and had playoff implications. I broadcasted with Jack Weafer and we had great chemistry. It was nice to actually broadcast with someone else so we could feed off of each other and make great comments about the
game.

ONW vs WARU Basketball:
This was the first basketball game of the season and I got to commentate with Connor Gerdes.
We were able to really excel at talking with each other and keeping the conversation going. We switched off a little bit with the Play by Play and Color Commentator. Overall I think we did a good job with the broadcast and had great cameramen in Parker Ralston and Jake Taylor.

Goals Moving Forward:

1. To get over 75 hours this year filming, broadcasting, and making videos. I have 40+ right now and hope to continue to excel and go to games the rest of the year.

2. Be able to talk to several people in the Sports media and find more job opportunities in the area. Also to be able to shadow several broadcaster and members of the sports media.

Final Thoughts:

I have loved S.I.D. so far this year. It's been so great to talk to other people who care so much about sports as I do. I enjoy making videos and seeing myself and/or my videos on Gameday Northwest every week and can't wait to come back after Winter break to get at it again.
